The Children’s Heart Fund
In Memory of Alexander Xavier Gallegos

Gallegos Family PhotoAlex Gallegos was born with a twinkle in his eye, a shock of dark brown hair, and a serious heart condition. Twenty-four hours later, he was transferred from Ventura by helicopter for surgery at Cedars-Sinai – and was one of the first infants to benefit from a new therapy called “Wound Vac”. Around his first birthday, he underwent a second open heart surgery and soon after began to thrive. Before long, he was crawling and then beginning to learn to walk. A few days past his second birthday, however, Alex suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.

Annette and Rick Gallegos believe their son Alex had a special purpose on earth – one that was accomplished so early in life that he was taken away at a very young age. Through the Children’s Heart Fund in Memory of Alexander Xavier Gallegos, they are helping families of other “blue babies” who come from afar to receive the specialized care that Cedars-Sinai provides. The Children’s Heart Fund offers qualified families financial assistance for expenses such as gas or transportation to Los Angeles, meals, or lodging while their babies are hospitalized.
